Lord Mayor's Show 2024

Return to the Middle Ages and join the colorful parade at the Lord Mayor's Show, an annual show that travels 800 years back in time. Watch as the newly elected Lord Mayor of London makes their way through the heart of the city to swear loyalty to the Crown.

What is now known as the Lord Mayor's Show has its origins in 1215, a turbulent time in English history. Facing a potential revolt and disastrous conditions across the country, a desperate King John granted the citizens of London the right to elect their own mayor in order to regain their loyalty.

The whole deal came with one condition—the newly elected Mayor had to travel from the city of London to distant Westminster to swear loyalty to the Crown.

As time passed, this journey became the grand civic procession and celebration known as the Lord Mayor's Show. The Mayors, and later the Lord Mayors of London, have continued this journey for over 800 years.

The details of this year's Lord Mayor's Show procession will be known after the new Mayor is elected at the beginning of October. However, the date of the show has been revealed—it will start at 11 a.m. on November 9th.

What to Expect When Attending Lord Mayor's Show 2024

Expect to see a mix of history and modernity! A huge crowd dressed in historical attire and costumes will fill the streets of London to watch the three-mile-long procession.

The procession usually starts at the Mansion House. It continues through London, passing by beautiful landmarks such as St Paul's Cathedral and the Royal Courts of Justice, where the new Lord Mayor takes the oath of allegiance.

This event offers the chance to learn new things about England's history while you enjoy the car-free streets of London!

The day will be cool with the possibility of rain. The expected temperatures will range from mid-40s to low 50s°F (8-12°C). Dress warmly, bring an umbrella and comfortable shoes, and have a splendid time!

You can watch the show for free since this annual event's costs are covered through donations and sponsorship.

Security Protocols

  • Police will be present to help manage the crowd.
  • Medical assistance will be available at many locations.
  • Prohibited items include any dangerous objects.
  • The streets will be closed throughout the day.
