A bit of history for those curious: the first Oktoberfest was held way back in 1810! Now known as Oktoberfest, this significant event began as a celebration of the marriage between Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen in October.

Oktoberfest 2024 will take place at its traditional location, Theresienwiese, in the heart of Munich, Germany. What to Expect When Attending Oktoberfest 2024

It’s important to know what the weather might be like and what to expect at the festival beforehand.

This year, expect typical autumnal weather during Oktoberfest: cool days with temperatures ranging from 16°C to 19°C and chilly mornings and evenings around 8°C to 10°C. Make sure you bring an umbrella or a raincoat and wear warm clothes. 

If you're thinking that mulled wine would warm you up, you're spot on! Even though beer is the main attraction, there are plenty of other options available, including wine, sparkling wine, lemonade, water, non-alcoholic beer, and much more.

While you don't need a ticket for this free festival, you should make a reservation for seats in the beer tents to get the full experience. The cost of the beer tent reservations depends on the size of the tent. Be sure to grab your food and drink vouchers ahead of time!

How to Get to and From Oktoberfest

There are many modes of transportation you can use to make your way to Munich Oktoberfest and back to your home or accommodation. If driving isn't an option, you can use public transport, such as the U-Bahn (subway), trams, buses, or S-Bahn (commuter rail).

Remember, bags are checked at the entrance. For easy entrance, keep an eye on the specific bag policy and anything you should avoid when visiting Munich Oktoberfest 2024:

• Only 3-liter bags or bags with dimensions equal to or smaller than 20 cm x 15 cm x 10 cm are allowed.
• Objects that can be dangerous are strictly forbidden, including sharp items, weapons, glass bottles, and so on.
• Medical bags and baby bags are allowed.
