If you're looking for something to do in downtown Phoenix either on a short layover, or you're just passing through, you may want to look into the events at Chase Field. Located in the heart of the downtown core, Chase Field is home to Major League Baseball's Diamondbacks. Built to seat 50,000 fans, games can get pretty loud and exciting.

A great feature of the stadium is that it's got a retractable roof so that guests are comfortable no matter the weather. It also happens to be one of the biggest venues in the state of Arizona, which is why it hosts more than just ballgames. The stadium hosts touring acts, concerts, and other types of shows year-round.

For those who do have a little extra time to spend in Phoenix before or after events, be sure to check out other attractions and sights such as South Mountain Park, Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix Zoo, Enchanted Island Amusement Park, and Camelback Mountain. Phoenix is also well known for its relaxing spa therapies, and its dining scene.

Before you head to Chase Field with your tickets, make sure you're aware of what's considered approved bags. The strict bag policy could mean you need to stow your items elsewhere, especially if you've got luggage. So let's take a look.

Chase Field Bag Policy Details - What's Considered Approved Bags

The Chase Field bag policy is pretty straightforward. The field only permits clear bags. You can use one clear plastic freezer bag, such as a Ziploc bag, that doesn't exceed 12” x 6” x 12”. An approved clear bag can be made of plastic, vinyl, or PVC. The bag must not have any obscured interior pockets. All bags will be subject to search and will go through metal detectors.

As well, you can also have a small clutch purse that can't exceed 4.5" x 6.5". This means you get one bag that is a one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag, and a small clutch bag or small wallets not exceeding 4.5" x 6.5". Prohibited bags in the field include backpacks, luggage, cinch bags, computer bags, and briefcases. There are exceptions made for medically necessary items.

The clear bag policy was put in place for fan safety and to help speed up the entry and security screening process.

Additional Rules and Policies

Wondering if there are any other policies or rules that may result in you being denied entry? Here are a few to be aware of.

Food and Beverage Policy

Guests are allowed to bring in small food items in a clear plastic bag. Empty plastic water bottles, sealed juice boxes, and baby formula are also permitted. Outside alcohol is strictly prohibited in any container.

Getting to the Stadium

Downtown Phoenix can be a bit confusing for visitors, but getting to the stadium doesn't have to be. Depending on where you're coming from, you may be able to walk to the gate.

If it's a bit further than you want to walk, a taxi or rideshare can be a great option. Both are easy to find but be aware of "surge pricing". This means they are more expensive during peak times.

For those who prefer to drive, there are several parking garages and lots to choose from near the stadium. A tip is to look for covered parking during the summer months to help keep your car a little cooler. Parking tends to be more expensive and harder to find on event days, so factor that into your schedule.

You can also use public transportation. There are several bus routes with stops near the stadium, but they may not operate as often as you need. The Phoenix Valley Metro Light Rail system is incredibly affordable and drops you off at the Jefferson and 1st Avenue Station. This is a 10-minute walk from the stadium gates.

Camera Policy

Guests are welcome to bring a camera with them, but it can't be a professional one. Cameras can't have lenses that extend more than 8" and more than 4" in width. You're also not allowed to bring tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, or GoPros.

Gates Opening

Gates open 90 minutes before the first pitch on weekdays, and two hours before the first pitch on weekends. Guests arriving before these times will need to wait outside the gates.

Cashless Venue

The stadium is a cashless facility so you'll need to use debit or credit cards for any purchases made. There are reverse ATMs available for those who need them.

Animals

Animals are prohibited from entering the venue unless they are service animals.

Prohibited Items

A few other prohibited items in the venue include laser pens, flags with inappropriate language, metal or glass containers, camera bags, fanny packs, luggage, drones, noisemakers, umbrellas, and beach balls.

Making Sure Your Visit to the Stadium Is Filled with Fun

There's nothing quite like watching an Arizona Diamondbacks game in person surrounded by other fans. It's a great way to get a taste of what downtown Phoenix has to offer. Even other events at the stadium are guaranteed to be an enjoyable experience. Just be sure you're aware of what's considered a permissible size with bags, and have a plan to drop off your luggage and belongings with us before heading to the stadium.
